Attend this FREE mental health first aid training to learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness.
This full day training will teach you the 5 basic steps to follow in mental health interventions.

Have you ever seen something happening that you were  concerned about, but felt too uncomfortable or unsure of how to intervene? You are not alone. Join us for a free, interactive bystander intervention training to examine our personal barriers to intervention, discuss ways to intervene using tools that fit our personal comfort level. These tools are perfect for anyone who wants to change our community culture to one that does not accept violence, stigma, isolation, and abuse!

2019 Thrive Summit

Join us for the 2019 Thrive Summit June 18th and 19th at the Ted Ferry Civic Center. The focus for this year is increasing community capacity for promoting equity and collaboration.

The two-day training will feature Praxis International facilitating conversations on how to advocate for community and systems change to support equity and build solutions to social issues. This is an opportunity to dive into systemic and institutional oppression in our community and society. Praxis trainers Kata Issari and Amanda Weston will help us find ways to maximize change in our community by turning advocacy into activism.

Day one will open with a keynote from Dr. Linda Chamberlain exploring the neurobiology of trauma, self-regulation, and healing practices.

Cost is $25 per person, and includes lunch both days.

We are excited to bring the Green Dot Alaska bystander intervention training to Ketchikan. Learn about personal barriers to intervention, how to intervene using the 3 D’s, and simple ways to change the community culture to one that does not accept violence! These skills can be used to combat isolation, stigma, interpersonal violence, community violence, and in many more situations in ways that you are comfortable with.

Have you ever wondered what is going on in the brains of the teens and tweens in your life? Are you interested in gaining skills and knowledge to help you in supporting their emotional growth and safety?

Ketchikan Gateway Borough School in partnership with Ketchikan Public Health, Ketchikan Wellness Coalition, Peace Health, WISH, and Revilla Island Resilience Initiative are pleased to present a two-evening event to help all community members who work with adolescents to increase their toolkit!

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Youth Mental Health First Aid is a training that will give you a clear 5-step action plan to help a young person who may be experiencing a mental health issue. 

Learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness, and what YOU can do to support a young person in your life.

You will receive a certification valid for 3-years upon completion of the full training.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. 

This training is offered FREE to the community from Ketchikan Wellness Coalition, as part of our State Behavioral Health grant.
